FRIDAY'S VINTAGE FIND

I saw her in Idaho.
Last summer.

I have thought about her many times since then.

This summer, I told my DH,
"If she is still there, she is coming home with us."
"Really?"

"yes, really."

Much to his surprise, she was waiting for me.

Again, he said, "Really?"  "yep."

A pristine beauty.

1961 White Singer Featherweight.

Amazing.

Beautiful.
Brand New Sewing Machine Smell.

And, she was $155 less than last summer.  She is so happy to be living with me!

She has only had a chance to sew a few seams.

But, in a week or two, I have plans for her.

Catching Up

Where has the summer gone?

I know I have been away.  A lot.

LA
Lake Chelan
Portland
LA to NYC (6 days in a car with my boy.)
Mt Rainier
Lake Chelan
Birch Bay
McCall, Idaho (Birthday Boy)
Odyssa, WA
Reardon, WA (Buggy Barn Show)
and this week, NYC (more Boy time)

Yep, this is my list.  I think there were a couple of other trips to Portland.

I have taken a lot of pictures and written a number of Blog Posts in my head.

Let's start with Reardon.

If you are local, you know that there are only a couple of business in the middle of the wheat fields.  The Buggy Barn, is by far the best!

The Rooster Cafe was a close second.

This is it.  The famed Buggy Barn Shop.

All decorated for the show.
I knew it was a small shop.
Packed full of wonderful sights
Inspiration.

It didn't seem too crowded.
So, we thought we would take our chances inside.

I tried to stand in one spot and take a few pictures.
To give you the idea of just what 'not too crowded' looks like
on Show Day!

I was able to wiggle myself up to the check out area,
and make a few purchases.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL QUILT SHOP!

The sky was so blue, and so big!  Really a beautiful sight.

Quilts on fences as far as you could see.

Just loved this flag.

Beautiful Wool quilt.

I don't know who PLS is, but she did a beautiful job.

Mary Lou Wiedman's influence was all through the show.

I love a basket quilt, and the simple applique really set these baskets off.
Stunning.

Love.

I didn't take a far-away picture of this beauty.

It was a vintage quilt top.  Machine quilted, and little bundles of french knots in the center of the design.

Really great to give an old top a new twist.

The colors in this quilt were really wonderful.

If you are ever in Eastern Washington, the last weekend of August.

Go.  It is worth the trip!

FRIDAY'S VINTAGE FINDS

Two weeks ago there was a Tailgate Sale in the Country Village
parking lot.

I was not going to browse shop.

I needed to stop by the shop that morning.  Can't remember why needed to do something important.

I am not sure how it happened, but I was sucked into the Vortex of Vintage.
A land that I love.

There were many wonderful things to look at.  And, great people to
chat with.  I ran into Dottie Angle .  I love her style, so I was peeking in her bag, to see
what wonderful goodies she had found.

Then I saw a table piled high with quilts.
I was doomed.

This is about how much I could see of this sweet thing.

As I opened it, I could tell the plates were a little 'wonky'.

I have said it before, EVERTHING looks adorable on a picket fence!

The binding is pink.  Be still my heart.

Just look at that fabulous orange print!

And those little white bunnies on the blue fabric.

The soft, hand quilted muslin on the back.

The wind is blowing a bit, but you get the idea.

This is one wonderful quilt.

Look at that cute border.

This is the reason that you should never skip a Tailgate Sale!!  xo J

FRIDAY'S VINTAGE FINDS

I have never seen a field of sunflowers.

I would love to.  Those happy faces all looking at the sun.
I have always loved them.  I have planted a few, with little success.

A couple of weeks ago, I had an extra half and hour.  This doesn't happen very often.  I am usually on a pretty tight schedule.  However, on this day, I was meeting one of my son's for lunch and I was a little early.
So, I decided to check out an antique store, that I hadn't been in before.

Always on the lookout for children's sewing machines, old baby planters, Fiesta.  Someones unfinished quilt top or needle work. I'll know it when I see it, kind of shopping.

Well, I hit the jackpot.

This beautiful Sunflower Quilt was in the dark, back corner of the shop.
Beautifully appliqued, and hand quilted.

I imagine it was made in the 30's.  The fabric has not faded a bit.  There are a few worn places in the binding, so I know it was used.  I am sure it was loved.

It is hard to believe no one in the Quiltmaker's family wanted it.
This is just fine with me.

I will love it and give it a wonderful home.

I can see a whole field of sunflowers dancing in the sun, can't you?  xo J

Summer Games

I love the Olympics.  Summer, Winter, it doesn't matter.

I love the stories of the athletes.  Their hard work and determination.
They are a very special group of people.

Today, as I get ready to watch the Opening Ceremony in London,
I was wishing I had made a quilt, to hang in my family room.

A Union Jack would be perfect.

I have seen other Union Jack quilts in Blogland.

Moda Bake Shop has a really cute, scrappy one.  Using FaLaLaLa from French General.

My friend Kay over at Quilt Studio Happenings made this one in honor of the Queens Jubilee.  Her pattern was from Busy Bee Quilt Designs

At Quilt Story there is a foundation paper pieced method for making your own Union Jack.

I am sure there are other great ideas out there.  We all have 2 weeks!  So,
Let The Quilting Begin!!  xo J

Summer Time

I love the look of the shop in the Summer.  It is just so stinkin' cute!

I had a new heat pump put in this spring. The man installing it, was going to put
the wiring right down the center of the painting.  A younger guy came to help, and said 'you know, you don't have to ruin the art work'  He was my hero that day.  The wiring is encased in white plastic down the right side of the sign.  Not to shabby!

Rebecca, the Master gardener for Country Village,  planted this quilt block a couple of years ago.
Super Cute!

And, I love a chance to take a picture of the chicken on the highway!

I hope you are enjoying a bit of sunshine.  It is sure nice here, at Keepsake Cottage!  J

WHERE WAS I??

The day after the Shop Hop was over, I hopped on a plane and flew to LA.  Then my son and I drove 3,000 miles in 6 days.  Ending up in New York City!  He was moving, and wanted a road trip buddy.  What an exciting time we had.  It was HOT!  2 days of 112.  Every day was over 100.  That's tough on a girl from the North West.

This was an amazing statue of Marilyn Monroe in Palm Springs.  Gives a new meaning to "Pull up your big girl panties!  Yep, that's my boy taking a picture of them!

We had to make a U-Turn to see this sign up close.  We didn't add to it, but had a great laugh.

I had to stop in Needles!  Any quilter worth her salt would want a picture here.  There wasn't a quilt shop, but there was a Needles Point Pharmacy.   It is located on the Old Route 66.  And, it was steaming hot!

We stayed in Flagstaff, AZ on our second night.  We hit the mother lode when it comes to license plates.  19 different states in our hotel parking lot!  That's when we started making a list.  We saw 42 states, and 3 Canadian Provence's.

We made a stop in the Painted Desert.  It was breath taking.  We would have loved more time here.

I was born in New Mexico, sadly, the Visitors Center was closed.

In Mississippi we saw a sign for a Mariner's minor league team.  So we stopped for a photo.

In Nashville we took time for lunch at BB Kings. Cameron is sitting in front of a painting of Jerry Lee Lewis.

West Virginia is my husbands home state, so there were lots of pictures to send home!

We arrived in NYC at 10:30 that night.  Walked around Time Square, had an adult beverage, and did a little people watching.  The next morning at 8am I was on a flight back to Seattle.

This was one of the most priceless weeks of my life.

If you ever have a chance to do something spontaneous with one of your sweet children, DO IT!  You won't ever be sorry.  xo J
